Rescuing children from the streets of Uganda

More 3,500 children live and work on Kampala's streets

No child should be forced to live on the street or endure abuse. Umoya is working to rescue children from the streets of Kampala, Uganda. We rescue, rehabilitate and reconcile street-connected children with their families.

Family assistance

We provide weekly food packages, emergency medical care and rental assistance as needed for the families in our programs.

We believe in a holistic approach to rescuing children that includes helping families to manage day to day life in caring for their children.

We ensure that each child we rescue from the street has access to an education or vocational training through our child sponsorship program.

Child sponsorship helps us to provide school fees, uniforms, books, transport and meals at school.

Education

Many children who are living on the streets are not orphans. They have families at home. Many children run from home hoping to find money and answers to their problems in the city. They soon find out they were mistaken. We work directly with children and their families to help reconcile them and bring their children home or find a close family member who is willing to take the child in. We believe in coming alongside families in partnership to support them to ensure their children have access to food, medical care and an education while living with their family.
